Most people don’t struggle with motivation. They struggle with not knowing where to start, or starting wrong and getting hurt. A good personal trainer fixes both.

Read through the profiles below and pick who fits your goals. If you’re not sure, call the studio and the team will point you in the right direction.
Charity Joy Secord

Charity is a NASM certified personal trainer and holistic wellness coach with years of experience in the field. Her work goes beyond reps and sets. She trains the whole person.
Specialty areas: breast cancer recovery, senior fitness, and endurance training. If you’re rebuilding strength after cancer treatment, returning to movement later in life, or training for your first half marathon, Charity designs programs around where your body actually is, not where it used to be.
Her sessions blend circuit training, interval work, strength conditioning, and functional movement. Flexibility, balance, and mobility are built into every program. She also brings nutrition tips and mindset tools into the conversation when clients are ready for them.
Charity has coached clients along the Half Moon Bay coast for years and recently authored Triggered: From Reaction to Resilience, a practical guide to managing emotional responses and building resilience.

Kylie Casal
Kylie holds a BS in Kinesiology with a focus on exercise science and her NASM personal training certification. She came to fitness through a very personal path: a spine injury in her teens forced her to rebuild her own body from the ground up. That experience made her a different kind of trainer.
Specialty areas: all ages, all levels. Athletes. Beginners. People coming back from setbacks. Kylie leads high-energy boot camp classes and designs one-on-one programs built around what each client needs to actually progress.
She’s particularly strong with clients who have had to work around limitations, because she’s done it herself. Her belief is simple: every body, regardless of starting point, can use training as a tool to build confidence and long-term wellbeing.

Ella Chitwood
Ella is a NASM certified personal trainer with a background in strength and conditioning. Like Kylie, her story started with an injury. A severe hip injury ended her competitive soccer career and sent her through months of physical therapy. That process changed how she thinks about fitness entirely.
Specialty areas: all ages, strength training, injury prevention. Ella builds programs that create a strong foundation first, making sure clients move well before they move heavy. Her approach is direct and encouraging. She believes training should be challenging, rewarding, and something clients genuinely look forward to.
What happens at your free 30-minute assessment
Every new personal training client at Highway 1 Fitness starts with a complimentary 30-minute session with their chosen trainer. This isn’t a hard sell. It’s a real conversation.
You’ll complete a liability waiver and a health questionnaire, covering your current fitness level, medical history, and goals. Then your trainer will run you through a few basic movements to see where you are physically.
That assessment shapes everything that follows. Your trainer uses it to build a program that fits you, not a template.
To book: contact the studio directly at (650) 726-4040. Assessments are scheduled on each trainer’s calendar, so you book directly with the trainer you’d like to work with. If your first choice is fully booked, the team will match you with another trainer who fits your goals.
How training sessions work
Standard personal training sessions run 55 to 60 minutes. Your trainer plans your program based on your goals and adjusts it each session. Nothing is cookie-cutter. The programming lives in the session itself, coached in person, not handed off as a PDF.
If you have nutrition questions, your trainer can address them. It’s not the primary focus of personal training at Highway 1, but it’s not off the table either.
Personal Training Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose my trainer?
Yes. When you call to book your free assessment, you request the trainer you’d like to work with. If that trainer’s schedule is full, the studio will recommend another who matches your goals.
Do I need to be a member to do personal training?
No. Personal training is available independently of group class memberships.
Is the free assessment really free?
Yes. No strings. It’s a 30-minute session with your trainer where you fill out a health questionnaire and go through some basic movement so your trainer can understand your starting point.
How soon will I start seeing results?
That depends on your goals, your frequency, and what’s happening outside the gym. Most clients who train two to three times per week consistently report noticeable changes in strength and energy within four to six weeks.
Ready to get started?
Personal training works when the program fits the person. At Highway 1 Fitness, that’s exactly how it’s built, one client, one goal, one session at a time.
The coastside has no shortage of ways to stay active. What’s harder to find is a trainer who actually knows your name, remembers what you worked on last week, and pushes you in the right direction without pushing you off a cliff. That’s what a small community studio delivers that a big box gym simply can’t.
Call (650) 726-4040 to book your free 30-minute assessment with Charity, Kylie, or Ella.
